Background and Research Interests

As a swine veterinarian, Dr. Corzo’s research interests focus on understanding the epidemiological features of diseases to develop methodologies to prevent, control and ultimately eliminate pathogens from pig populations. Specifically, he is interested in biosecurity compliance and the role of endemic bacteria during primary pathogen elimination.

Dr. Corzo coordinates the Morrison Swine Health Monitoring Project (MSHMP) funded by the USDA, Pork Checkoff and the Swine Health Information Center (SHIC). This voluntary project monitors the incidence and prevalence of high impact diseases such as Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome virus and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea in approximately half of United States sow herd population. Dr. Corzo is currently the Leman Chair in Swine Health and Productivity and an Associate Professor in the Department of Veterinary Population Medicine. Dr. Corzo is the past recipient of the MaheswaranFellowship in Food Animal Health, College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota and has been a member of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians since 2003
