The Secure Poultry Supply Plan uses the science of the Secure Egg, Broiler and Turkey Supply Plans to create elements that can be used for Continuity of Business permitting in the event of a disease outbreak.
Harmonization
To simplify Continuity of Business permitting, several elements and criteria for moving products have been harmonized. As an example of harmonization in the SPS, the movement of hatching eggs requires that the same permit criteria are met independent of poultry species.
Permitting Process
Permitting is the mechanism that manages movement during a foreign animal disease outbreak, like HPAI. When movements are stopped to prevent disease spread, permits allow specific movements that are essential if certain criteria are met. Continuity of Business permitting is the category of permitting that is specifically relevant to the Secure Poultry Supply Plan.
