Background and Research Interests

Dr. Emily Walz is a researcher at the University of Minnesota.  She has an interest in ecosystem health in the broadest sense, focusing on disease or issues that arise at the confluence of people, domestic animals, wildlife, and the environment.   Emily specializes in building connections to support community-based and participatory methods as a means to better understand determinants of health.  She has worked across cultures and between groups that don’t often communicate in order to utilize multi-disciplinary teams to find workable solutions to veterinary and public health challenges. Emily supports the Secure Poultry Supply Plan as a risk analyst and content editor, and also serves as the point of communication with the Secure Broiler Supply working group.  She helps stakeholders from the poultry industry, regulatory agencies, and academic institutions build consensus on risk mitigation measures, and incorporates these findings into the risk analysis process.
